Valborgs in ingelska
När jag har försökt förklara Valborgsmässoafton för människor som inte är från Sverige, verkar det inte riktigt som att de fattar storheten med den här högtiden.
- Well, it's the last of april, and we light a big big fire and everyone stands around and watches the fire, and there's a lot of drunk people and also teenagers get really drunk. Sometimes people throw little fire crackers in to the fire, and then someones dad yells at them. And also if you want the traditional way of celebrating you have to listen to some students singing a song that goes kind of like "the winter is falling down the alps".
- And why are you celebrating this?
- It's an old way of kicking the winter out the door, and also to scare of the witches and bad things to open your arms for christ.
- You do that by standing around a huge fire?
- Yes, ofcourse, how do you guys do it?
